Have you experienced burglary or theft in your business or at home? Whether yes or no, you need a solution in case of such moments. One way to do this is by installing CCTV cameras in your home or business. They will help capture or even scare the intruders of your property. So, what are these CCTV cameras, and how do they operate?

    What is a CCTV?

The initials stand for closed circuit television. It’s a system where video cameras are strategically positioned around an area to record footage. The footage is then relayed to a display monitor for real-time viewing, allowing footage playback. You can get a CCTV camera for home recording to help you keep an eye on what happens around your home.

The technology has been around for years, but recent improvements have made it more effective. Besides offering surveillance on activities happening, it also helps capture criminals. Before installing this camera, you need to know the different types available in the market.

    Common CCTV cameras options

As mentioned, the main purpose of a security camera is to capture footage as you protect your property. To help you understand some of the cameras available, here are several options to choose from:

Analogue cameras: These cameras have been around for decades and are among the most common CCTV camera types installed today. They store videos on the site and have basic security functionality. In addition, they can display the video on a normal TV without using a DVR. However, they work with DVRs, but it depends on your preference.

Wired security cameras: These types of cameras use cables to transfer footage and run video surveillance. However, the signal becomes weak if the transmission range surpasses 300 meters. The right networking cables, signal boosters, and switches are vital to avoid this problem. This camera type also allows you to interconnect several cameras to a single monitor positioned in a security room.

Internet protocols (IP) cameras: These cameras have the same function as the other two. But they have vast capabilities as they use modern technology. For example, the cameras have sharper, higher resolutions and flexible features like repositioning and zooming. In addition, they give you an option to check footage on a browser. These features in IP cameras help get notifications of anything suspicious that the camera records, such as movement. You can view this from a computer, smartphone, or tablet anywhere.

Now that you know the different options of security cameras, it’s time to learn how they work.

    How do CCTV cameras work?

You might think the operation of CCTV cameras is complicated, but it’s not. But how they work differs with the type of system you install, and the components used, but the process is similar. For example, a CCTV system may consist of one camera, lens, monitor, and recorder. But the number of cameras you need depends on the area that needs surveillance.

A CCTV operates by taking a constant sequence of images transferred by cable or wirelessly to a recording device. After this, images are displayed on the monitor, allowing you to see the sequence of images as video footage. You can also zoom closer and further or rotate to 360 degrees, depending on the camera type.

CCTV cameras have become an important addition to security systems. Before their invention, keeping an eye on your property or business was hard. Today things are easier, you can monitor your business or home from anywhere, but it depends on the camera type. Also, there are cameras to suit every budget; it’s all on you to pick one that suits your needs.
